Doubt

We went from heel to toe to heel to toe,
jumping from tile to tile, a deer set free.
We locked our eyes, within his soul – his past
regrets, his shame, his guilt, tearing his heart.
He opened his mouth – to start then stop. He
then found his tact and asked: “If you could change
your love, would you throw all your life away?”
Without a second thought, I stifled his
doubts: “No, for I would never have met you.”
